uses a different type of ultrasonic vibration to turn the
power transmitted down the waveguide through 90° and
focus it into the target tissue. How it does this is explained
below but a simple mathematical model, backed by growing
clinical experience, shows that the power delivery can be
as much as four times that of conventional longitudinal
devices.
- Energy is directed into target tissue only,
giving very secure coagulation and very fast cutting.
- Much lower risk of “distal drilling”.
- The waveguide does not depend on friction
to generate heat so it can be highly polished, running
well below the fatigue limit and so can be re-used –
saving cost.
- The compact, lightweight transducer lies
within the surgeon’s hand providing a balanced,
ergonomic instrument.
- The simple, efficient design provides a
cost effective disposable jaw actuator element.
